I'm not surprised this series got a live action adaption before an anime adaption (although I'd like one). Anata ga Shite Kurenakutemo aka Even If You Don't Do It is a mature drama with complicated characters, it explores themes of love, loneliness, and the complexities of human relationship.
Michi Yoshino is unsatisfied with her married life, since she and her husband, Youichi, haven't had sex in two years. As the distance between them grows ever more insurmountable, they drift apart emotionally and become disconnected. At work, Michi gets closer to her coworker Niina, who is in a similar situation with his own wife. They try to cheer each other up, share advise how to rekindle their marriages etc., but ultimately it's not that easy and both Michi and Niina ask themselves, are their marriages worth saving anymore? Is love and passion just gone? Have they changed and become too different, people do change every 10 years and if couples drift apart, it gets difficult to grow together (one may want kids, while the other is still not ready). Besides that, both of them start to develop romantic feelings for each other, but don't want to start an affair out of respect toward their spouses.
In the end, Michi decides she wants to be free again, start from scratch so to speak, and that means, she has to leave her husband. Instead of jumping into a new relationship, she really wants to put in the work and try to be happy on her own, which isn't easy, alone doesn't mean lonely, but it can feel like that, when parents, friends or colleagues start to feel bad for you because you're getting divorced. But Michi is strong, finds a new place to live and is ready for the next chapter of her life - an independent woman, who will no longer settle or feel sorry for herself. Meanwhile, Niina is clearly in love with Michi, but doesn't know how to leave his wife...
