This anime gave me a headache as well "blue balls" (though I'm female). A love story that revolves around high schoolers that are constantly horny for each other, but can't seem to just say "I love you". In this case, even their school is forcing the students to be married for some psycho reason, and our main protagonist still acts like a fool every second he gets a chance.
A story like this has been told many times before in romance anime (school has a program and students are forced to be a couple, even though they might like somebody else, but then after a few weeks fall in love with each other), the key point is though, you need to keep things interesting, be funny and engaging, or at least give good fan service... "More Than a Married Couple, But Not Lovers" sometimes failed at that.
I actually liked the first episode, the plot was moving forward fast, the main characters Akari and Jiro are fun together, there is a nice tension between them, but after episode seven the pacing felt off, the characters were doing or saying things just to prolong the inevitable or there was an interrupting phone call, knock on the door etc., hence the blue ball effect. And I really didn't like the supporting cast here, Shiori, Jiro's childhood friend, and Minami, Akari's love interest, are blander than water. I don't even know why the mangaka has so many potential love interest scattered in the story, when it's so obvious who will be the end game couple, that could have been done better. Jiro's best friend Sadaharu was great though.
After watching Jiro struggle to decide which girl he should ultimately pursue (poor thing) he finally picks... no one, read the manga or wait for season two, suckers. My favorite moments are when Akari and Jiro are on screen together, they have nice chemistry, the rest seemed like filler. I wonder if I would have liked this better as a movie instead of a 12-episode series. I want to give plus points for the beautiful animation though, and the dub was great.
