Noragami: Stray God 8/10

Noragami is a popular series thanks to its unique plot and hilarious main character, Yato. Yato is a deity or god, who's trying his best to not be forgotten and help as many humans as possible with their problems. If you are familiar with Japanese folklore and the Shinto religion, you will find the world of Noragami very interesting, if not, you are about to learn a lot of new trivia!

One day, a high school girl named Hiyori Iki has a near-fatal accident while trying to save Yato from an oncoming bus. After the accident, Hiyori's spirit becomes disconnected from her body, and she can now see and interact with spirits and gods. She turns to Yato for help in returning her to normal, but he actually ends up needing her help as well. After saving the spirit Yukine, the trio is complete, and we follow them around, solving "quests" and collecting coins, so Yato can stay a god.

Yato is a complex character, oscillating between his humorous, carefree side and his more serious, determined nature. We find out, that he might be a big shot God, but in the modern world, has no real following, and is worried about being forgotten and dying (Gods only die when humans no longer pray to them). Later on, we also find out all the bad things Yato had to do to survive, with the help of his former assistant/regalia, Nora. We meet a lot of other characters, namely gods from the Shinto religion, such as Kofuku (Goddess of Poverty), Tenjin (God of Learning), Ebisu (God of Fortune), Rabou (God of Calamity), and Bishamonten (Goddess of War) etc.

There's also some fan service going on, your OTP might me Yato and Hiyori, or Yato and Kofuku, or Yato and Bishamon, or even Yato and Nora. "Noragami" doesn't take itself too seriously, and the humor is a significant part of the series' charm. The banter between characters, slapstick comedy, and witty one-liners provide comic relief without detracting from the overall plot. The pacing can be a bit uneven, with some episodes feeling slower than others. However, this allows for more in-depth character exploration and world-building.
